Vic: Row over "assault" and too few drivers cancels trains
Driver shortages and assault allegations have caused the cancellation of some trains
during Melbourne's peak hour.
Bayside Trains says 12 trains were cancelled during this morning's peak hour, and a
spokeswoman says they've tried to minimise disruption this evening.
The cancellations follow action by drivers belonging to the Rail, Tram and Bus Union,
who refused to volunteer for unfilled shifts.
Their action followed claims last week that an inspector from Hillside Trains had assaulted
a union representative working for Bayside trains.
And Union branch president MARC MAROTTA says Bayside management departed from the normal
policy in dealing with the allegation.
