FOR MORE THAN 400 YEARS, trade associations have been powerful forces in business and commerce. Savvy business people have long understood the concept of the power of many. In the candy industry, professional organizing started in the 1880s and by 1884 we were one of the first industries in the nation with a formal trade association--the National Confectioners Association.

Over the years, nearly everything in the industry has changed. Today we have international marketing and distribution, machinery that doubles or triples production and brands known around the world.
