Aust working days lost to strikes falls =2 canberra
The bureau said that in the 12 months ended May 1999, there
were 454,900 working days lost to disputes.
This was down 17 per cent compared with the 12 months ending in
May 1998.
"This decrease was in contrast to increases in the number of
disputes (43 per cent) and employees involved (three per cent)
over this period," the bureau said.
Compared with the 12 month period ending in May 1998, the coal
mining industry reported the largest decrease in the number of
working days lost followed by the metal product sector, then
machinery and equipment manufacturing.
The education, health and community services group of
industries recorded the largest increase in working days lost, up
23,400.
There were 62 working days lost per thousand employees in the
12 months ended May 1999.
