Fed: CSIRO research shows trees make smog worse

SYDNEY, Jan 10 AAP - Trees may be the lungs of the city, but new research shows native
species also add to the smog problem in major Australian cities.

CSIRO researchers have found that Australian trees and plants emit chemical compounds
which react with other pollutants to make the smog problem worse.

The research, commissioned by the Environmental Protection Authority and carried out
by the CSIRO's Energy Technology and Atmospheric Research division, looked into the organic
