(Full text of statement. Contact details below.)

HONG KONG, Sept 24 PRNewswire Asia-AsiaNet -- PKI technology adopted in Electronic Mark Plant Circulation System SecureNet Asia Limited announced today that its Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology has been selected to provide online security for a joint project of HKSAR government departments and private utility-related companies.

Using PKI technology, the eight project members of the Electronic Mark Plant Circulation (EMPC) system will begin on September 24 exchanging and circulating electronic records and messages related to road digging and utility works over the Internet. The EMPC system allows project members to securely access information from each other to improve coordination on road digging and utility works.

The EMPC system's project members are CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd, Drainage Services Department, The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd, The Hong Kong and China Gas Co., Ltd, Highways Department, Hutchison Global Communications Ltd, PCCW and the Water Supplies Department.

To facilitate electronic record retrieval and delivery processes among users, a secure and efficient document management system plays a vital role in the EMPC system. SecureNet Asia's PKI technology enables the system's users to insert digital signing on documents using Hongkong Post e-Cert, making electronic document exchange secure, verifiable and legally binding. Hongkong Post e-Cert is a digital certificate issued by Hongkong Post, a public certification authority, authenticating identity of electronic document senders.

"We are pleased to be selected as the security technology provider in this joint government and utility-related companies project," said SecureNet Asia's Vice President, Ventures David Chen. "Our robust and reliable solution helps EMPC participants to streamline their document exchanges through the Internet. We see that PKI-enabled solution will be adopted by more and more organizations to safeguard and authenticate online communications and transactions amongst government-to-business, business-to-business and business-to-consumers."

PKI technology addresses two key security issues of electronic document flow. First, it authenticates the document by proving that it originated from a valid sender with a valid digital certificate. Second, it ensures the integrity of the document by checking that it bears a digital signature -- guaranteeing that the document's contents have not been altered.
